The treatment

What is Endoscopic Spine Surgery?

In endoscopic spine surgery, a thin tube with a camera and light (an endoscope) is passed through a keyhole cut. Dr. Nitish sees the nerve on a high-definition screen and removes the disc piece or bone that is pressing on it.

Because the muscles are gently moved aside instead of cut, there is less pain, almost no blood loss and a faster return to work. It is not right for every spine problem, so the choice is made after a careful MRI review.

Who needs it

  • Slipped disc pressing on one nerve root
  • Sciatica or arm pain not settling with treatment
  • Some cases of nerve narrowing (foraminal stenosis)
  • Patients who want the smallest possible cut, when the MRI allows it

Step by step

How Endoscopic Spine Surgery is done

1

MRI review

Dr. Nitish checks if your problem can be treated safely through the endoscope.

2

Keyhole access

A cut of under 1 cm is made and the endoscope is guided to the problem area with X-ray.

3

Nerve freed

The disc piece or bone pressing the nerve is removed while watching on the screen.

4

Quick recovery

Walking the same or next day, and most patients go home within a day.

Is endoscopic surgery better than microscopic surgery?

Both are modern, safe techniques with good results when chosen correctly. Dr. Nitish picks the technique that suits your MRI and your problem, not one technique for everyone.

Can every slip disc be treated endoscopically?

No. Some disc problems, large disc pieces or unstable spines need microscopic surgery or fixation. This is decided after examination and MRI review.

Is it covered by insurance?

Yes. Spine surgery for disc prolapse and nerve compression is covered by most health insurance and TPA policies.

How soon can I go back to work?

Many patients return to desk work in 1 to 2 weeks. Heavy work takes longer and Dr. Nitish will guide you.
